Open Up Your Heart

I wrote this for someone who's very important to me. We see a lot of things differently.

Open Up Your Heart
03/18/2008

why don't you face it?
i can tell you're upset
why don't you face it?

why don't you confess?
i can tell you're a mess
you're gonna have to face it

life ain't as easy as it used to be
sometimes we all must say goodbye to simplicity

open up your heart to the world
open up to the world right in front of you
take a step beyond your own front door
your front door, your front door

why don't you open up?
you've had your share of bad luck
why don't you open up?

why don't you let it go?
i know you're tired of putting on a show
you're gonna have to open up

life may not mean what it used to
but not everyone's given up on you

open up your heart to the world
open up to the world right in front of you
take a step beyond your own front door
your front door, your front door

get use to the truth,
cause the truth doesnt change

The Rising Sun

This song was written around May 8, 2008. I've re-edited it. I'd love some feedback.

The Rising Sun

i never heard a love song, until i heard you call my name
i never saw all the colors, i was drenched in all the rain
i never knew to take shelter when the darkness took over the sky
i never had a mother to wipe the tears from my eye
but i know the son is gonna rise

i never felt the healing of faithful fingertips
i never felt the power of a kiss from a lover's lips
i never knew how to set things right when my words ruined everything
i never had a brother and i never knew how to sing
but i know the son is gonna rise

the rising sun, here it comes
the rising son, here He comes
the rising son

i never spoke to Jesus until my world came crashing down
i never knew how to hold my tongue with the chaos spinnin’ round
i made many a promise that i knew i couldn't keep
i never believed i could fall in love, the price was just too steep
and i know the son is gonna rise

the rising sun, here it comes
the rising son, here He comes
the rising son

Our World

I would hope this one is self-explanatory.

Our World
July 22, 2008

we're all equal
living out these sequels
to all the lives that came before we lived
we're broken people
separate but equal
we're all held responsible for what someone else did

and if it doesn't work that way, then it will never work
but why are we still to blame, and why do we get hurt?

our world is broken, battered, tattered
fallen apart
our world is hopeless, helpless, shattered
blemished and scarred
our world needs to restart

poverty stricken
selfish and wicked
is it everybody or am i the only one
stricken with sickness
can i get a witness
is someone else responsible for everything i've done

and if it doesn't work that way, then it will never work
but why are we still to blame, and why do we get hurt?

our world is broken, battered, tattered
fallen apart
our world is hopeless, helpless, shattered
blemished and scarred
our world needs to restart

Ally

This one is one I wrote for my wonderful wife, Leah Collins. In our relationship, I want nothing more than to have her back and for her to have mine in every situation. I want us both to be able to fully and completely rely on one another with 100% trust and faithfulness. Since we're still human, we're not there yet, but we're continuing to grow and we'll be there someday.

Ally

-words by Clint Collins

we stay up in the wee hours of the night;
just to prove that you are wrong and i am right;
and it comes so naturally to fight;

but i don't want to do that anymore;
let's go back to how it was before;

and i'll propose to you;
and i'll offer you a truce;
and i'll be the first one to sign;
and i'll offer you my hand;
just to show that i'm a friend;
and you can put your name next to mine;
and i will be your ally;

we struggle with things like hate and lust;
and sometimes it gets so hard to trust;
but trust me when i say that i'm not giving up on us

i don't want to keep secrets anymore;
let's go back to how it was before;

and i'll propose to you
and i'll offer you a truce
and i'll be the first one to sign
and i'll offer my hand
just to show that i'm a friend
and you can put your name next to mine
and i will be your ally

Still A Mystery

Here's one I wrote for a couple of friends of mine. They each came to a point in their lives when it was revealed to them that what they had thought to be true for so long wasn't true at all. They were shown the truth, but found it hard to trust due to having been decieved before. I think we can all relate to an extent. Click here to hear me performing it live.

Still A Mystery
-words by Clint Collins

Ready, aim, shoot, but you miss the mark
You just know you’ve let everyone down
What happened to the girl that you were
She had all the answers, now she can’t be found

Now everything’s different because everything’s new
you just don’t know where to begin

but hope is where you’ve fallen down
and you didn’t fall as far as you might think
and love is a gift that you could never earn
and grace is still a mystery

so many voices and so many rules
Y’know it’s enough to make you go numb
but you give all you have to do what they tell you
and one day it all comes undone

If all your beliefs turned out to be wrong
then what’s left to put your faith in?

but hope is where you’ve fallen down
and you didn’t fall as far as you may think
and love is a gift that you could never earn
and grace is still a mystery

and if you listen you can hear somebody singing over you
and if you listen you can hear somebody sing…

but hope is where you’ve fallen down
and you didn’t fall as far as you may think
and love is a gift that you could never earn
and grace is still a mystery
